The National Sports Commission sponsored junior badminton tournament continued on Friday at the Queen’s College Court with Narayan Ramdhani and Greer Jackson walking away with the boys and girls singles titles.
Ramdhani defeated Noel Sewjattan in two sets 21-12 and 21-11, while Jackson defeated Priyanna Ramdhani 21-15 and 21-10.
Meanwhile, Narayan Ramdhani and Avinash Odit will contest the final of the boys under-19 singles.
Narayan Ramdhani and Odit advanced to the finals after defeating Jonathan Mangra and Christopher Persaud in the semi-finals.
Narayan Ramdhani defeated Mangra 21-9 and 21-10, while Odit defeated Persaud 21-9 and 21-3. The finals will be played tomorrow at the same venue.
As the tournament moves into its final stages, Jonathan Mangra was adjudged the most improved player with his defeat of seasoned player Noel Shewjattan in the quarter finals of the boys under-19.
Others who performed creditably were Priyanna Ramdani who is also the junior sportswoman of the year. The ten-year-old managed to reach the final of the girls under-17 singles by defeating national player Angelica Holder. Greer Jackson and Narayan Ramdhani both played unbeaten throughout the tournament, with Jackson winning the girls’ under-17 singles title and Narayan Ramdhani the boys. Narayan Ramdhani has a final chance to prove himself in this tournament in the boys under-9 tournament tomorrow.
