A 36-year old man, who allegedly stole two pieces of metal from a Norton Street scrap metal dealer, was yesterday morning found dead aback the Princes Street incinerator in the city.
Dead is Keith Bowen, called ‘Bowie’ of 51, Norton Street, Lodge.
According to reports, Bowen’s body was discovered by persons in the area sometime around 8 am yesterday.
Persons in the area described the man as a ‘smoker’, adding that he did odd jobs around the city.
They said that the man may have been beaten to death at a Norton Street location on Saturday night and his body subsequently dumped at the scene.
Reports are that Bowen was caught stealing two pieces of metal from the scrap metal dealer and he was apprehended by several men at the location.
He was then given a sound beating during which he was hit repeatedly about his head and shoulders. His left hand was also broken in the process. The man was then transported and dumped at the Princes Street location.
His mother, Sylvia Kishore told Stabroek News at the Albouystown home of another of her children yesterday that her son, who hadn’t any children, did odd jobs around the city and she also described him as an addict. She said that sometime before lunch time yesterday one of the man’s friends told the family that her son’s body was lying at the dumpsite. She said that her children visited the location and their worst fears were later confirmed.
The woman stated that at the scene someone told her relatives that he saw several men dumping the body at the site early yesterday morning, adding that he was already dead when he was taken there. She said that she later learnt that persons who work for the scrap metal dealer may have been responsible for her son’s death.
The man’s siblings were all teary-eyed when Stabroek News visited the family and a cousin stated that, ”even if they find he thiefin they had no right to kill he and then dump he”.
When this newspaper visited the scene yesterday, Bowen’s body was lying close to a clump of bushes at the dumpsite. Blood stains were observed on his shoulder, head and hands while his abdomen bore a wound.
The man’s body was later removed by the Lyken’s Funeral Home. Later yesterday afternoon, police investigators visited the home of the scrap metal dealer on Norton Street as the lawmen investigated the killing.
