Dear Editor,
It was already anticipated that the PPP/C was going to attempt to use every possible legal and political manoeuvre in order to block parliamentary consideration of the pensions and other retirement benefits that former president Bharrat Jagdeo is scheduled to receive. It has been reported that he will receive (approximately) $3M in pension and benefits. I want this debate, because like many other Guyanese, I believe that those benefits are economically and morally wrong, given the present socio-economic realities in Guyana.
Meanwhile, I am compelled to ask Guyana’s Ministry of Home Affairs as well as the administration of the Guyana Police Force to follow up on recent complaints from former Speaker of the National Assembly and top PPP/C official, Ralph Ramkarran, about “the police frequently abusing law-abiding citizens and thus reducing the possibility of their cooperation.”
I also want to draw attention to the manner in which the Ministry of Home Affairs has treated Assistant Commissioner David Ramnarine, after he returned to work from vacation.
Yours faithfully,
Morris Wilson
