Ivelaw Duke who was arrested last Friday at Aranka, Essequibo River and charged with possession of a firearm without a licence was on Monday jailed for three years and fined $75,000 after pleading guilty in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
According to a police press release, ranks on a police mobile patrol at Aranka, Essequibo River conducted a search on a mining camp and found one .380 pistol without ammunition and a male suspect was arrested.
Duke, 28, of Lot 73 Prince William Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton and pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of a firearm without a licence.
