A man who claimed to be a driver at a taxi service in the city was yesterday in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court remanded on three counts of robbery under arms.
Owen Irving appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton on three indictable charges of robbery under arms and was not required to plead.
Irving allegedly on Monday at David Street, Kitty, being armed with a dangerous weapon, to wit a gun, robbed Desmond Wilson of one BlackBerry Bold 3 cellular phone worth $130,000, $65,000 cash and a wallet containing a national identification card, a US Visa Card, a Scotia Bank ATM Card and other documents.
Irving also on the same date, in the said David Street, allegedly while being armed with a gun also robbed Regan Ashley of $10,000 and Leslie Campbell of US$110 and $130,000 Guyana currency.
Irving was unrepresented and in his application for bail he could not provide the court with a proper address which the magistrate told him is necessary if bail was to be granted.
Police Prosecutor Corporal Simone Payne objected to Irving’s bail application on the grounds of the seriousness and prevalence of the offence and also cited the fact that he was unable to provide the court with a proper address.
Irving is scheduled to appear again in court on June 18.
