A 27-year-old mechanic who is accused of fraudulently converting almost half a million dollars in car parts to his own use and benefit was yesterday granted $150,000 bail by Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It was alleged that Lochan Rasul Baksh, who is on an indictable charge of fraudulent conversion, between April 1 and May 29, in Georgetown, while being entrusted solely by Shabiki Caesar with motor car PKK 6385 to effect repairs, converted the said motorcar engine, transmission valve, air conditioner and dashboard, all together worth a total of $438,000, for his own use and benefit, the car parts being the property of the said Shabiki Caesar.

In his defence it was stated that the car and parts which were reportedly converted are lodged at Police Headquarters, Eve Leary.

In the application for bail it was stated by Baksh’s counsel that his client is also known as Andy and  he has a fixed place of abode at Second Street, Cummings Lodge. The attorney said also that his client is a bodywork auto mechanic who has no previous police records.

Prosecutor Police Corporal Simone Payne did not make any objections to the bail application and Baksh was granted bail and ordered to appear in Court Three for report and fixture.
