A trainee teacher was on Thursday badly beaten by a male Campbellville Secondary School student whom she had scolded during a class session.
Education Minister Priya Manickchand last evening confirmed receiving reports of the incident and said that an investigation had been launched.
She said that based on her information there were two versions of what took place. One was that the teacher “beat” the child who later retaliated and the second was that no provocation prompted the attack.
Sources close to the school told this newspaper that during classes the trainee teacher who is a student of the Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE) spoke to the student and after he did not listen to her, he was scolded. This apparently angered the student who proceeded to inflict a beating on the teacher.
This newspaper has since learnt that the student is a third former.
