Narayan Ramdhani emerged the top male junior player and Greer Jackson the top female junior player at the National Sports Commission (NSC) Independence Junior Badminton Tournament which concluded on Monday at the Queen’s College Badminton Courts.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) Independence Day Junior Badminton Tournament finals thrilled spectators as both male and female players attacked and defended their shots with quick drops and smashes.
At the close of the games Ramdhani emerged the top male junior player and Jackson the top female junior player.
Under-15 and 17 champion Ramdhani won the first game 21-19 and national under-19 player Avinash Odit won the second 20-22. Ramdhani then took control of the third game, winning 21-14 to become the top male junior player.
In other results, Elan Rahaman won first place in the under-11 boys singles and Christopher Killikelly came second while Priyanna Ramdhani beat Ria Persram in the girls under-11 game.
Omari Joseph won the under-13 boys singles and Shane Shewjattan came second. In the under-13 girls singles Priyanna Ramdhani again emerged victorious over second place finisher Kara Abrams.
In the under-17 boys singles Narayan was first, followed by Noel Shewjattan in second. Narayan also won the under-19 boys singles and Odit placed second.
Under-15 players Jonathan Mangra and Ambika Ramraj were awarded medals for being the most improved players.
The Guyana Badminton Association expressed its gratitude to the NSC for making the tournament possible.
