Early in April, veteran Guyanese designer Pamela Fox launched her ‘Hummingbird Collection’ in Tortola, British Virgin Islands and is heading to the US Virgin Islands in July with her new ‘Resort Collection’.
According to a press release from Green Mango Media (GMM), the ‘Hummingbird Collection’ is bright, classic and funky and was a runaway success.
“I am so pleased with all the wonderful response the collection has received,” the release quoted Pamela as saying. “I tried to cater for both conservative and daring people and it’s a dream come true to win so many new fans in a new part of the Caribbean.
“I threw my heart and soul into preparing this – in many ways it’s been years in the making to get this far, and I’m really proud of what we have all achieved. My team really pulled out the stops – combinhing cotton and silk easy to waer pieces, accessorized sandals, bags and jewellery made with real leather, alligator and snake skins, Amazonian beads and what you would call my trademark – intricate crocheted details.”
GMM, a London-based media company owned by Guyanese sisters Amanda and Andrea Wilson and British journalist and musician Matt Falloon, has also secured a contract for Fox to dress BVI’s top female television personality Tamara Archibald Gill. Gill’s show, Tami Live Show is shown in Tortola, Turks and Caicos, St Kitts, USVI and the Cayman Islands.
The release quoted Amanda Wilson as saying: “We have so many unbelievably talented and original designers in the Caribbean, among the best the world has to offer, but we rarely get to see their work because of a lack of promotion and a lack of investment.” She said GMM was going to change that through it quarterly catalogue Chic Fashion, which also featured Pamela’s designs and was also launched in April.
