HAMILTON, Bermuda, CMC – Officials of problem-plagued football club Boulevard Blazers have kicked out 13 players in a drastic move to clean up the club’s image.
The Royal Gazette said the entire squad underwent a rigorous screening and vetting process to weed out players who “no longer reflected the long-term vision of the club”.
The move follows a difficult 12 months that saw Boulevard’s season end with relegation from the Premier Division after collecting just 12 points. Troubles on and off the field ruined last season which saw the club having to withdraw from the Friendship Trophy because of safety concerns and forfeit a league fixture because of a shortage of players.
Many of the club’s players appeared reluctant to travel to the west end of the island because of the fear of gang reprisals.
Blazers’ president Lou Matthews admitted his outfit had “lost sight of their community values” and therefore required radical changes.
