POINTE-A-PIERRE, Trinidad, CMC – West Indies all-rounders Dwayne Smith and Kieron Pollard produced electrifying innings to fire Queen’s Park to a 56-run victory over Preysal in the final of the Premiership Twenty20 Festival here Saturday night.
Playing at Guaracara Park, Queen’s Park racked up 207 for four off their allotted 20 overs and then returned to restrict Preysal to 151 for eight, to seal their third title this season and sixth in two years.
Winning the toss and batting, Queen’s Park were given a handy start by Man-of-the-Match Smith and West Indies A batsman Justin Guillen who put on 42 for the first wicket.
The right-handed Smith, who recently played for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, cracked 66 off just 41 balls with six four and two sixes.
However, Guillen dominated the stand, smashing 30 from 19 balls with four fours and a six before departing.
Marlon Barclay then stroked 32 from 27 balls but his dismissal paved the way for another Mumbai Indians star, Pollard, who clobbered 49 from 21 balls with two fours and four sixes to bring the innings to a thrilling climax.
Facing a very daunting target, Preysal were given a powerful start by Guyanese opener Trevon Griffith whose 79 required just 47 balls and contained seven fours and two sixes.
Once he was out, however, Preysal lost their way to slip to defeat.
