The man who is accused of stabbing and hammering a mother of ten was slapped with three charges and is expected to make his court appearance today.
On May 27, Aubrey Peters reportedly stabbed 38-year-old Sharon Howell at their Freeman Street, East La Penitence home, multiple times including to her shoulder, neck, stomach and head. Peters also hammered her about her head using the claw of the hammer.
Despite the severity of her injuries, the wounded woman, who was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital in critical condition, is no longer on life support and her relatives are optimistic about her recovery.
Peters, who had been in a relationship with the woman for almost two years and who is the father of the woman’s youngest child—a one-year-old girl—was believed to have later ingested a poisonous substance at his sister’s home at Diamond on the East Bank Demerara and he was also at the GPH.
When Stabroek News yesterday spoke to the injured woman’s brother, Wickliffe Halley, he said that Peters was charged with two counts of attempted murder–on Howell’s life and his own, and the physical assault of the woman’s daughter who was hit to the mouth during the incident.
Halley stated that the man was yesterday discharged from the hospital and as he was being escorted out by a policeman, he collapsed. Nevertheless, the man was reportedly taken to the Brickdam Police Station.
Meanwhile, Howell is said to be in a stable condition and in a conscious state. Still, she is unable to speak and family members have said that this may be because part of the brain was affected during the gruesome attack.
Relatives believe that the woman is capable of walking but said doctors would not yet allow this. “She coming around alright you know, she moving all her body parts and responding in this way,” Halley told Stabroek News.
This newspaper was made to understand that the attack had stemmed from plans Howell was making to return to her husband and life in Barbados.
