Although constables at the Stabroek Market heard alarms go off at Cosmopolitan Jewellery Establishment, ½ 29 Section 3, no action was taken and the jewellery stall was cleaned out by bandits sometime last night.
Reports are that Market Constables failed to respond after hearing the alarm sometime during the course of the night. The bandits used a blow torch to cut their way through the roof of the stall and carted off an undisclosed amount of cash and jewellery.
According to the Proprietor of the Stall, Radika Samuels, when she arrived around 9 am today and opened the stall door she noticed that one of the lights was on. She said that she became suspicious and further investigations revealed that the vault had been broken into and emptied. There was a neatly cut hole at the top of the stall and all the jewellery she had was missing.
She said that she could not estimate her losses at this point.
Amidst tears Samuels stated that the alarm system is monitored by a private security service but it did not contact her.
This is the second time Samuels’s stall was wiped clean leaving her with $M of losses.
