Craft Beterverwagting (BV)/Melanie defeated New Amsterdam in a close 57-52 encounter last Tuesday evening when the National Community Basketball League continued at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
It was an intense battle between the communities as they had several lead changes early in the game before BV/Melanie held the advantage during the course of the third.
However, while the game was always close as New Amsterdam made several runs in the games, BV/Melanie would answer with a run of their own, keeping the Berbicians at bay.
Kurtley English was the highpoint man for BV/Melanie with 16 points while his teammates Haslyn Hooper and Dexter Walcott contributed 11 and 10 respectively to the win.
Randy Richardson was outstanding for New Amsterdam as he played on both sides of the ball with equal amounts of energy, scoring a game high 25 points and registering four blocks. Carlos Crandon also helped with 13 points in the losing effort.
Meanwhile in the second game of the night Guinness Bar Lodge/Meadowbrook blew out Pamco Mining South Ruimveldt 77-35.
Lodge/Meadowbrook played stellar defence as they hardly allowed any points in the paint while closing quickly on any open shooters.
The Guinness Bar sponsored team while not as efficient from the field as they could have been, ran the fast break well which amounted to most of their points.
Drumson McCaulay and Darrion Lewis had 13 points each in the blowout win while Antwaun Austin helped out with 12 points.
Ruel Ritch was phenomenal for South Ruimveldt as he displayed excellent court vision throughout the game while racking up nine points along with Clarence Blackman who also had nine points as well in the crushing loss.
Meanwhile games will continue tonight at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall as four of the unbeaten teams in the tournament to date will clash.
The first game will see Wismar taking on Universal Group of companies Wortmanville/Werk-en-Rust while the second game will allow the Western Union Central Mackenzie team to do battle with McDoom/ Diamond.
