Police have hit a dead end in the investigation of the death of Indira Narine, whose decomposing body was discovered at her Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo home, after the cause was ruled as “undetermined” by the pathologist who performed the autopsy.
Crime Chief Seelall Persaud told Stabroek News that while the police are still investigating, the fact that the cause is undetermined means that the death cannot be recorded as a homicide. The woman’s body was in an advanced state of decomposition when it was found last Saturday evening and this hindered the pathologist.
It was suspected that she was raped and murdered by an intruder in the home, which she shared with her mentally challenged daughter.
A friend of the woman, who had not seen any sign of her for days, made the discovery when she decided to check on her last Saturday. A foul stench and hand signals by her daughter alerted the friend that something was wrong and she immediately contacted the police. Upon checking, the lawmen found the woman’s decomposing body in the top flat of the two-storey building.
