Sharon Howell, the mother of 10 who was stabbed and hammered mercilessly by her partner, was discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital and is said to be resting at her Freeman Street, East La Penitence home.
On May 27, the 38-year-old woman was stabbed by her partner, Aubrey Peters, multiple times about the body, including in her shoulder, neck, stomach and head. Peters also hammered her about her head using the claw of the hammer.
Owing to the severity of her injuries, the injured woman was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition but steadily recovered, initially being transferred from the Intensive Care Unit to the High Dependency Unit then subsequently discharged.
Peters, who had been in a relationship with the woman for almost two years and who is the father of the woman’s youngest child—a one-year-old girl—was believed to have later ingested a poisonous substance at his sister’s home at Diamond on the East Bank Demerara, and he was also admitted to the GPH. This newspaper understands that he too was discharged from the hospital and is in police custody.
When Stabroek News yesterday contacted the woman’s brother, Wickliffe Halley, he stated that the accused was expected to appear at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court last week but due to a relapse, he was readmitted to the GPH. However, the man said officials have indicated that Peters will make his court appearance tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Wickliffe said that the woman’s children and other relatives are glad to have her return home and she too, he said, appears to be much happier. He stated that she is eating solid food now and seems healthy but is still unable to speak.
He added that doctors have indicated that she has regained her strength but at this point, are uncertain about whether or not she will get back her speech. “Right now we are praying and we know she will talk again. We just have to give her time but I am very happy that my sister is home,” the man said.
