Teams from the U.S. and Bahamas searched today for any Haitian migrants who may have survived when their overloaded boat capsized in rough seas killing 11, according to the Associated Press.
Authorities were trying to determine if one of five men who swam to safety after the boat capsized may have been the organizer of the ill-fated smuggling venture, said Assistant Superintendent Loretta Mackey of the Royal Bahamas Police Force.
AP said that the authorities recovered the bodies of 11 people who drowned after the boat’s engines failed and it capsized just off the northern Bahamian island of Abaco.
