The Kwakwani Natural Resources Organisation last Sunday made a donation to the Kwakwani Hospital valued, in excess of $500,000, to help boost health services to the community. “We are more elated to know that we can provide our community with things that can boost the health care services that is given to residents of this community,” said the organisation’s secretary Brian Boyle. He explained that at the onset of the organisation’s formation two months ago, the hospital’s management had submitted a list of items needed. He said all the items on the list amounted to $1.6 million and “we ordered the other things and are expecting them to arrive in the country soon.” Among the items donated were air conditioning units, stand fans, water coolers, torch lights, waste disposal bins, heavy duty gloves, linen and upholstery materials. In the presence of Guyana Forestry Commission’s (GFC) representative Joyclyn Joseph, members of the organisation also expressed their gratitude to the GFC for making forested lands available as it is key to their livelihood and their ability to contribute meaningfully to Kwakwani. As a condition of its land allocation, the organisation had vowed to the GFC to execute activities and projects that would not only benefit individual members but the community at large. The organisation is headed by Chairman Howard Lepps and its treasurer is Simeon Cort. In photo: nurses, members of the organisation and Joseph stand with the donated items.
