CABOFE bantamweight champion Elton ‘Coolie Bully’ Dharry and Rudolph Fraser will match gloves for the vacant super bantamweight title of Guyana when the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) stages it 24th edition of its Pro Am initiative on June 29.
According to executives of the GBBC, the bout which will be staged at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, will headline the professional segment of the event which will feature four professional fights.
The professional segment of the card will become official tomorrow at the contract signing at the Abdool and Abdool Building on Avenue of the Republic.
The undercard will feature Edmond ‘Wonder Boy’ DeClou, the CABOFE and local middleweight champion coming up against Trinidad and Tobago-based Joel McRae for the national title.
The DeClou/McRae fight will be a trilogy. The ‘Wonder Boy’ won the previous bouts by decisions the last, for the local interim super middleweight title last July.
Dharry and DeClou will be both looking to win impressively before they enter the lucrative World Boxing Council’s 50th anniversary World Cup which boxes off in August.
The card will also feature Guyana’s light heavyweight champion, Kwesi ‘Lightning Struck Assassin’ Jones taking on Kelsie George in a six-round light heavyweight contest while debutant Richard Williamson will look to start his career on a positive note against Shaeed Ali in a four-round bantamweight matchup.
Fraser, who fought to a draw earlier this month with Cassius ‘Classy’ Matthews, has called out Dharry on several occasions proclaiming that he has what it takes to bully the ‘Coolie Bully’ who has age and ring experience on his side.
The 26-year-old Dharry, who is 10 years younger than Fraser, has a record of 10 wins, five losses and a draw. Fraser’s record reads six wins, two losses and a draw.
Jones, who has been inactive since he knocked out Cleveland Fraser last August, will finally get his chance to shake off some ring rust against the young Berbice native. Over the past two months Jones was scheduled to defend his local title against former CABOFE light heavyweight champion, Trinidad and Tobago-based Guyanese Shawn Corbin.
Jones, who has a record of nine wins, (five by knockout) and two losses, will be heavily favoured to defeat George who is winless in his three professional fights so far.
George’s last bout saw him suffer a unanimous defeat at the hands of James Walcott earlier this month.
The names of the boxers who will make up the amateur segment of the card will be announced subsequently.
The monthly card is an initiative of the GBBC in collaboration with the Sports Ministry and the National Communications Network (NCN).
Sponsors of the event include Digicel, Giftland Office Max, Courts, Banks DIH Limited and ANSA McAL.
Admission is $1,000 while children will be asked to pay half price. Bell time is 20:00 hrs.
