The police say they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of pensioner and licensed firearm holder Joseph Rodrigues, 83 years, of Chateau Margot, ECD, which occurred at about 1155h today.
Investigations so far have revealed that Rodrigues confronted his daughter Angelia Rodrigues over a sum of money that he claimed was owed to him by her now deceased child-father.
Police say that he attacked her with a piece of wood which she managed to take away, after which he collected his licensed shotgun and discharged a round at her; however she managed to escape unhurt.
It is reported that Joseph Rodrigues then went back into the house and shot himself to the head.
