Raising the Bar, that was the theme at Herdmanston Lodge yesterday when the Flex Night Inc. Committee launched its 10-page Flex News Newsletter.
The mission of the newsletter is to promote the aesthetic and health benefits of adopting a health and fitness lifestyle and to raise awareness of the importance of healthy living and the place of physical exercise in any strategy for overall wellbeing.
In doing so the committee will be hosting bodybuilding and fitness events to showcase the attractiveness of the fitness, health and bodybuilding lifestyle and will also be looking to raise the profile of fitness and bodybuilding in Guyana.
Another reason for the launching of the newsletter is to create an awareness of non-communicable diseases like heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, etc.
During the briefing, Flex Night Inc.’s Managing Director Donald Sinclair gave an overview of the organization and unveiled the plans that Flex Night Inc. will be undertaking in the future.
Sinclair intimated that on December 8, Flex Night Inc. will be hosting the inaugural ‘Flex Night International and Health and Fitness Expo’ at the National Cultural Centre. The show will involve bodybuilders from Guyana, Suriname and Brazil.
There will be shows in West Demerara (September 29) and Berbice (September 30) to determine suitable candidates who will be on show in December.
The bodybuilders from the three nations will be vying for the top spot in four categories – Mr. Flex Night, Miss Flex Night, Miss Bikini and Miss Best Legs.
Other events which are planned by Flex Night Inc. include dialogue with the Ministry of Sport and other relevant agencies with a view to collaborating in the execution of the following national and community projects:
National Fitness Week (proposed date in December); establishment of a pilot, outdoor community exercise station and a seminar on sports etiquette.
There will also be a souvenir magazine for Flex Night in November.
Sinclair also revealed that Flex Night Inc. has formed overseas partners in Southwest Florida, Toronto, Canada, New York, Frankfurt, Germany and in the Caribbean. At the briefing were Robyn Lord(Corporate Secretary and Finance Director) Dianne Sinclair (Judging and Personnel), David Gomes (External Resources), Onai Vasconcellos (Event Logistics and Competition) reigning Novices bodybuilding overall champion Donnel Perry and reigning Miss Body Fitness and Miss Physique Nadina Taharally.
