(Trinidad Express) Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has said the launch of a National Registry of Artists and Culture Workers will be networked to support development through free movement within the Caribbean and Europe.
She was at the reception for the National Symphony Orchestra at the Diplomatic Centre, St Ann’s on Friday night.
Persad-Bissessar said Government has placed greater attention on not only supporting, but enhancing and developing the arts and culture in Trinidad and Tobago.
“One measure in particular that we take great pride in is the launch of a National Registry for Artists and Culture Workers which has been networked to support development through free movement within the Caribbean and Europe,” she said.
Persad-Bissessar noted the visit of the National Symphony Orchestra, which was first started in 1959 on a tour of Latin America, provided the country “with the chance to capitalise on this approach through cooperation with the United States and I am therefore delighted to note that cultural exchanges will emerge out of your presence here in Trinidad and Tobago”.
Persad-Bissessar said such cultural exchanges will bring further opportunities for the country’s citizens.
“Perhaps this provides fertile ground for a challenge; for out of these exchanges to emerge an entirely new 21st century harmony,” she said.
