Junior 200 metres champion Elton Bollers is truly blossoming this year as one of Guyana’s top junior sprinters when he won the Under-20 metres at the Mustangs Games in Trinidad yesterday which was held at the Hasley Crawford Stadium.
Bollers, who surprised track enthusiasts by defeating both Stephan James and Chavez Ageday to be crowned as the junior 200 metres champ earlier this year, clocked an impressive 21.51s to claim the event.
The 19-year-old, who was only able to get little over 24 hours to acclimatize himself to the rubberized surface, made the time he clocked that more spectacular after landing in the twin-island republic on Friday.
However, the rising star was very critical of himself about his performance yesterday in the 200 metres event.
“I didn’t have any time to groove in because I came here on the eve of the games but I’m happy that I pulled off the win.
“However, I wasn’t getting everything out of the tank I just managed to beat them off of the turn and maintained to the end,” Bollers told Stabroek Sport via telephone after the event.
Bollers is expected to be a part of the 400 metres event which is slated to take place later today.
