Overseas-based distance athlete Lionel D’Andrade yesterday returned a time of 35:38s to run away with the Heart of Barbados 10-kilometre event yesterday morning.
The tall runner had a fairly easy race as he breezed past opponents Jerome Blackett and Mark Greenigde who were second and third with times of 37:26s and 39:38s respectively.
D’Andrade indicated to Stabroek Sport that while he was pleased with the race he was basically using it as a warm up race from a 20K event on Tuesday.
“Well it was a good race, I just came out to run…it was basically a warm-up race because I’m preparing for a 20k coming up this Tuesday, so it was good to get the win,” D’Andrade stated.
D’Andrade is expected to be back in Trinidad today for another 10k event in preparation for his 20k event.
