All the other teams in the Farfan and Mendes Junior Team Tournament 2012 have so far experienced the unsavory taste of defeat except one team; the Little Rascals.
The Little Rascals secured two more wins to extend their unbeaten streak to four games with one match to go for the title. The Little Rascals followed up their 3-2 win against Victorious Secrets on Friday night at the Georgetown Club’s squash courts with a commanding 4-1 near sweep of the X-Men.
Prior to their clash with the Little Rascals, the X-Men had also possessed an undefeated record but Jason Ray Khalil, Alec Melville, Daniel Islam and Larissa Wiltshire enforced their unrelenting winning will. Larissa Wiltshire epitomized that will as she came from two games down against Pablio Mundini (8/11, 5/11) to close out the X-Men’s second string in five games (12/10, 13/11,11/5) yesterday morning. Mundini must have experienced the déjà vu feeling as he had surrendered a similar commanding 2-0 lead against Patrick Fraser on Friday evening.
Daniel Islam also lost the first game against Makeda Harding but battled back to win the match in four games, while Alec Melville dispatched eight-year-old Shomari Wiltshire in straight games 11/8, 11/3, 11/3. Steven Xavier managed to steal a game from national under 19 champion Jason Ray Khalil, who had won his matches in straight-game fashion prior to that encounter. Xavier put up much resistance, but Khalil nevertheless prevailed 11/9, 12/10, 6/11, 11/9.
Khalil had secured a more commanding win against Victoria Arjoon on Friday night during his team’s 3-2 win against Victorious Secrets. Victorious Secrets’ second string Akeila Wiltshire overpowered her younger sister Larissa with a straight-game win, while Rebecca Low also swept Gianni Carpenter by the same margin. Little Rascals Alec Melville and Daniel Islam defeated Travis Whitehead Dominic Collins respectively to clinch their team’s third win. The Little Rascals were scheduled to do battle with the 3-1 Black Panthers in their final match of the tournament after press time last night.
Black Panthers have also managed to come back strong after losing to X-Men on opening night and possessed the same record as the X-Men after session one yesterday. Following their 3-2 win against Danza Kuduro on Friday night, the Black Panthers ravaged the Abusement Park 4-1. Fifth string Lucas Jonas secured wins in both encounters; defeating Danza Kuduro’s Liam Haley 3-0 and Zachary Persaud 3-1. Joseph also took apart Danzo Kuduro’s captain Ashley deGroot 11/7, 11/8, 11/0, while the Abusement Park’s Mary Fung-A-Fat was able to steal one game before Joseph (11/0, 11/6, 7/11, 11/6) brushed her aside.
Victorious Secrets got its first win of the tournament against winless Danza Kuduro 3-2 after Arjoon secured a grueling five game win against deGroot 6/11, 12/10, 5/11, 11/6, 11/3. Travis Whitehead and Dominic Collins were the other two victors in Victorious Secrets’ maiden win. After four matches Little Rascals lead the way with four wins followed by X-Men and Black Panthers with three each, then The Abusement Park and Victorious Secret with one game apiece and winless Danza Kuduro.
