A Linden man died yesterday after he fell off a truck at 48 Miles Mabura Road, Upper Demerara.
Dead is 47-year-old Eon Clarke called Eon Tappin and ‘Bage’ of Poker Street, Back Road, Wismar, Linden.
According to a police press release, around 14:00 hrs on Sunday, Clarke was sitting on top of the cab of a motor lorry that was travelling along the 48 Miles Mabura Road, when he fell off and sustained injuries. He was taken to the Mackenzie Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The driver of the vehicle is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
Yesterday Clarke’s common-law partner of two years, Keane Kissoon, said the man was also a popular taxi driver in Georgetown.
The woman said she was shocked at the news of her partner’s death since it came hours after he had left home. She said he told her that he was going to take a truck into the interior, something he did periodically. “He does usually work taxi in Georgetown and from time to time he would go and drive truck to the interior for ranking,” said Kissoon.
She said that based on the information she received Clarke and another driver were to take turns in driving. “So is the other man was driving and I hear de police got him lock up.”
The distraught woman recalled being told that her partner fell and broke his neck and died before he could have received medical attention at the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC).
She said he had one child.
