Despite early showers, the Becian Star Federation recorded 318 points to be crowned the new champions of the second edition of the Goodwill Relay event held Sunday at the Eve Leary Sports Club ground.
The Calphays Federation, who won the tournament in 2010, was second with 297 points while Fecund, Excelsius and Salpah were third, fourth and fifth respectively.
Becian Star, from Berbice ran away with most of the smaller categories especially in the under-15 girls where they swept every race in the age category.
Meanwhile Calphays teams were consistently pushed into the second and third positions during the course of the action.
While Excelsius finished fourth they had a good day in the male open category as their male team swept all the races in the category.
Turning to invitational action, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) had an unlikely upset as the Mercury Fast Laners Track Club dealt a severe blow to the military men in the 4×100 metres event.
However, a mixture of GDF men and Running Brave Athletic Club men which included the likes of Patrick King, Stephan James and Selwyn Fraser dominated the 4×400 metres invitational ahead of the Police Athletic Club.
Organizer of the event, Derill Gittens was pleased with the support the event received and thanked all of his sponsors namely Banks DIH, Dyna’s Embroidery, Guyana Beverage Inc., (Busta) MACORP, K and P Project Management Company, New GPC Inc., Wayne Beverage Paradise, Home Health Education Services and Artic Zone for their contribution to the event which he deemed a success.
