Caricom Impacs crucial to executing regional security plans

US Ambassador to Guyana and Plenipotentiary Repre-sentative to Caricom Ambassador Brent Hardt says the Caricom Implemen-tation Agency for Crime and Security (Impacs) continues to be central to the region and international community in executing regional security initiatives.

A Caricom press release said during a visit by Ambassador Hardt to Caricom Impacs’ new headquarters in Trinidad, discussions were held with the Interim Executive Director Francis Forbes in which the agency’s achievements in helping the region to address crime and security were acknowledged.

These included Caricom Impacs’ involvement in the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI) and its role in the identification of regional security schemes that enhance national security initiatives in Caricom member states.

The Ambassador said the agency’s work continues to be fundamental to the region and the international community as it serves as a bridge between member states and the international community in the development and implementation of regional security initiatives.

Forbes noted that the Ambassador’s visit to the new headquarters was timely and he reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to achieving its goals.

Forbes also gave a fervent account of the support Caricom Impacs has garnered from the international community, including the United States, in boosting its capacity to execute regional crime and security initiatives over the past year.
