Jamaican man chops brother to death

(Jamaica Gleaner) A 24-year-old man who chopped his brother to death and injured two other family members has turned himself in to the Greater Portmore police this afternoon.

The police said the name of the suspect is being withheld pending further investigations.

The dead man has been identified as 16-year-old Naval Palmer of Corlette Drive, Gregory Park, St. Catherine.

It is reported that about 7 o’clock this morning, Palmer was at home, when a dispute reportedly developed.

The accused allegedly grabbed a machete and chopped his brother, then his stepmother intervened and was attacked and chopped repeatedly.

The father tried to wrestle the machete from the accused and he too was chopped.

They were taken to hospital where Palmer died, and his stepmother admitted in serious condition.

The father was treated and sent home.

However, it was revealed that the attacker recently returned from overseas, and should have left Jamaica on Saturday.

One resident Oral Guuning said “it is very shocking to everyone as the community is closed knitted and the lane is named after a family.”

No motive has been established for the killing.
