Muscle cramps caused overseas based distance runner Lionel D’Andrade to finish third at the Butler Classic 20K run in Trinidad which started at 06:00hrs yesterday morning.
D’Andrade clocked 1:12.47s seconds for third while his countryman Kelvin Johnson finished slightly ahead of him with a time of 1:11.07s. Richard Jones was first in a time of 1:09.14s.
The lanky distance runner, who had a packed weekend, wining a 10k in Barbados last Saturday and a 5K in Trinidad last Sunday felt the tough schedule had an adverse effect on his performance.
“Well I was out ahead and I believe my packed weekend caused me to have muscle cramps at the 15k mark which resulted in me dropping my pace,” D’Andrade stated in an email.
The event which saw 240 plus starters at the line was also had a walk aspect along with 4.5k for juniors under the age of 15.
