A man arraigned on two counts of narcotics trafficking was yesterday remanded to prison after appearing before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation against Ian Chung is that on June 18 at Georgetown, he had in his possession 16 grams of cannabis resin for the purpose of trafficking. On the same day also, he is alleged to have had in his possession 220 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
The accused denied both charges when they were read to him.
Advancing special reasons in a bail application for his client, attorney Adrian Thompson argued that the illegal substances were not found on his client’s premises as advanced by the prosecution.
Objecting to counsel’s bail application, however, the court heard from the prosecution that the accused was seen by police who were observing him for sometime throwing a bulky plastic bag, which contained the illegal substance, through his window.
The matter will be called again in July.
