Underdogs, Business School, showed they meant business by not only upsetting the favoured St. John’s College but in doing so handed them a whipping winning 19 goals to one when the Digicel Schools football competition continued yesterday at the Carifesta Sports Complex ground.
Such was the onslaught of goals from the Business School players that in the second half their own supporters began to beg for leniency for the St. John’s College who had not yet found the back of the net despite many attempts.
Scoring for the Business School were: K. Khan with eight goals in the sixth, 28th, 31st, 35, 38th, 44th, 68th and 70th minutes; T. Saunders with four goals in the 11th, 30th, 46th and 63rd minutes; O. Adridle with a hat trick in the 17th, 51st and 54th minutes; K. Edwards in the 27th and 37st minutes and one goal each from D. Austin and J. Lopez in the 46th and 24th minutes respectively.
Onlookers could not help but compliment the Business School players on their knowledge of the game and their ability to execute the fundamentals on the field.
The lone goal for St. John’s College was scored in the 54th minute by Aroydy Brandford.
Business School’s Coach K. Bailey told Stabroek Sport said that while he expected his team to win, he did not expect them to win by such a wide margin. According to Bailey most of the players on the team are members of football clubs which made it easy for him when it came to preparing the team.
Two of the students, Washington Cavalcant and Yago Marcos are Brazilians and were were brought on to strengthen the midfield.
Cavalcant recently relocated to Guyana.
Last year, he said the team was thrashed by the Government Technical Institute 23-0.
“I think the players worked very hard this year to erase that deficit last year, so they came out very enthusiastic this year,” he opined.
Meanwhile, over in Region Three, Uitvlugt Secondary School edged out La Grange by a 3-2 margin. Scoring for Uitvlugt were Kevin Dundas, Jamal Bentick and Kevon Jones.
