A Stabroek Market vendor was injured yesterday when he was pinned as a result of a collision between a minibus and a RAV 4 sports utility vehicle along D’Urban Street, Lodge.
Stabroek Market vendor, Compton Joe, 54, of ‘B’ Field, Sophia, was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital after being pinned in the front passenger seat of the Route 41 Guyhoc bus, BLL 2626. He suffered injuries to his left leg while others involved in the accident escaped unharmed.
When Stabroek News spoke to Joe at the hospital, he explained that the bus was travelling along D’Urban Street and as they were approaching Smyth Street, the driver overtook another vehicle and as he repositioned back in his lane, he crashed into the back of the Rav 4, bearing licence plate PGG 6938.
“He was swerving from a car when he hit into the back of something and the bus flip over on the side,” the man said as he sat in the Accident and Emergency Unit of the hospital awaiting medical attention.
This newspaper was told that the accident occurred minutes before 5pm and the passengers of the bus were trapped for an unascertained period before the bus was turned over.
Joe said after the bus was turned over and other passengers were freed, he found himself pinned and persons had to help remove him from the vehicle.
