Amid calls by the two unions on campus for him to resign, the University of Guyana today said that Professor Compton Bourne has been re-elected as Chancellor of the university for the next three years.
In a statement today it said:
“The University Administration, in response to questions raised by a few media houses about recent calls by the University of Guyana Workers Union and Senior Staff Association, for the resignation of Chancellor Professor Compton Bourne, advises that it does not support the call for his resignation.
“At a recent meeting of the University’s Council, Prof. Bourne was re-elected Chancellor for a period of three years and the Administration looks forward to working with Chancellor Bourne, the Council, all university staff and stakeholders, to charter a new course for the institution.”
The UGWU and the UGSSA resumed protest action at the University this week over conditions and a memorandum of demands. They called on Bourne to resign for not addressing their concerns.
