The sea defence structure at Maryville, Leguan is almost complete.
Enterprise, Leguan resident Cheddi Dhanraj told Stabroek News on Tuesday that the work on the sea defence wall, estimated to be about 200 yards, started earlier this year.
According to him, it is essential since the island is occupied by mainly farmers. “This construction started probably in February or March… Every month 20,000 pounds of meat is shipped off that island and if we could have better sea defence, it will encourage farmers to stay and produce,” he explained.
He also said residents were praising the work of Toolsie Persaud Limited.
“We are asking that projects like these be headed by this same company because they are reaching all the requirements,” he said, while noting that a previous development project that was carried out by another contractor on the island ended with a Hymac excavator toppling over into the river. He pointed out that works carried out by TPL are usually done without any difficulties.
