Three games, three wins, eight scored goals, no problem. Back Circle Stallions (Team Guyana) just keeps on rolling and looks like the team to beat when the three-night inaugural Guinness Caribbean Street Football Challenge culminates tonight at the National Park tarmac.
The Stallions followed up their two wins on Thursday night by defeating St Vincent in their first game last night by two goals to nil.
Strikes by captain Andy Duke (second minute) and Vincent Thomas (11th minute) completed Guyana’s victory.
In the first match of the evening, Trinidad and Tobago outclassed Antigua by two goals to nil. Kerwin Simon’s double one minute apart (second and third minute) set up the victory for the ballers from the Twin Island Republic. With their respective victories, Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago have cemented their place in the semi-finals and have inched closer to the first prize of the US$4000 and a complete Futsal hard court in their community.
The results for the remaining games last night between by Antigua and St Lucia, Trinidad and St Vincent and Guyana and St Lucia, will be carried in tomorrow’s edition.
The winner of each semi-final will battle in the final game which will be staged tonight. In the games on Thursday, Guyana trampled Antigua 5-0 and edged Trinidad and Tobago 1-0.
The first, second and third runners-up will receive US$2,000 and a trophy, US$1,500 and a trophy and US$1,000 and a trophy respectively. Barclays’ Premier League, Stoke City striker and Guinness Street Football Ambassador Kenwyn Jones will grace the event tonight as will Jamaican Reggae singer, Bugle who is expected to perform. Spectators are expected to flock the National Park in their numbers to witness history in this format of the game with the number of participating teams from abroad. Kick off time is 19:00 hrs and admission is $1000.
