Hosororo Secondary School’s football team will today oppose Region One champions Port Kaituma in the second round of the Digicel Schools tournament at the Settlement Ground, Mabaruma after whipping Wauna Secondary 5-0 yesterday.
In front of a crowd of more than three hundred Hosororo inflicted a 5-0 drubbing over Wauna Secondary yesterday on a soggy Settlement Ground.
Leyland Mendonca in the first minute, Gilbert Hernandez in the 17th minute, Raphael Hernandez in the 34th and 37th minutes and Rodwell Bennett in the 39th minute, was the goal scorers for Hosororo.
Hosororo had several opportunities to widen their margin of victory but failed to make the most of those chances because players either held on to the ball too long or just made bad passes.
However, while they were scoring and making numerous mistakes at the same time they managed to effectively prevent Wauna Secondary from scoring although their defence was not of the best.
Coach Nigel Peters said that he was not expecting his team to win the competition but gave them a 50/50 chance.
According to him the team, which is a young one, is just not ready for this type of competition.
Peters said last year he had a better team although the team was knocked out in early in the tournament by Mabaruma Secondary.
Peters, however, said that he was confident of having a better team at the competition next year.
Asked what were some of his team’s weakness he said failing to mark the counterparts and maintaining their position.
He was optimistic of victory over Port Kaituma adding that yesterday’s crowd was the largest his team had ever played in front off, which he opined might have been responsible for some of the players’ blunders.
The second match to be played today will feature Mabaruma Secondary and Moruca Secondary.
The winners of both matches will clash in the final tomorrow to name the regional champion.
Meanwhile in results of other matches played yesterday Bladen Hall defeated Cummings Lodge Secondary 4-0 with Travis Brandis and Eon Sullivan scoring two goals each.
Brandis scored in the 16th and 70th minutes while Sullivan netted in the 42nd and 60th minutes.
And at the Tucville Ground, Lodge Secondary defeated East Ruimveldt 4-0 with Travis Lyken, 18th, Kareem Johnson, 48th, Ryan Hackett 56th and Keith Fletcher 59th minutes scoring the goals.
