The Indian Cultural Centre screens the film Traffic Signal today from 5.30 pm at its Lot 67 New Haven, Bel Air, George-town location.
According to a press release, Traffic Signal, directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, tells the lives and travails of people living around a fictitious traffic signal (traffic light stop) in Mumbai. There are beggars (children and adults), prostitutes, tricksters, eunuchs and others who sell clothes, flowers and trinkets. They speak quickly, act fast and operate somewhat honorably (with each other) to eke a meagre living out of the harsh
Mumbai street life. They owe allegiance and hafta (weekly “protection” fee) to the Signal Manager, Silsila (Kunal Khemu).
Bhandarkarr won the 2007 National Film Award for Best Direction for the film, which also stars Neetu Chandra, Ranvir Shorey and Konkona Sen Sharma in the lead.
The film’s running time is 130 minutes and admission is free.
