The finals of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) Under-15 junior badminton tournament will take place this afternoon from 4.30pm at the Queen’s College Auditorium.
The tournament commenced on Saturday and is part of a series of events planned by the GOA in observance of Olympic Month.
According to a release from the GBA, the tournament, which has attracted players from a number of schools around Georgetown, will serve as preparation for the junior national team which will participate at the Pan American badminton championships in Alberta, Canada next month as well as the Caribbean Games (CAREBACO) which will be held in Dominican Republic in August.
The boy’s singles final will be played between Narayan Ramdhani and Cecil Abrams after both players won their semi-final matches.
Ramdhani defeated Omari Joseph 21-8, 21-6 while Abrams got the better of Jonathan Mangra 21-16, 8-21, 22-20 while Priyanna Ramdhani and Ambika Ramraj will contest the girls’ singles final.
In the semi-finals Priyanna Ramdhani defeated Nadine Jairam 21-7, 21-4 while Ramraj defeated Arian Kayume 21-11, 8-21, 16-21.
In the boys’ doubles semi-finals, the pair of Narayan Ramdhani/Jonathan Mangra defeated Katan Persaud/Shane Shewjattan 21-3, 21-4 while in the other semi-final Abrams/Darnell Benn defeated Omari Joseph/Jonathan Persaud 21-13, 21-9.
In the girls doubles semi-finals, Priyanna Ramdhani/Ramraj defeated Jea Ramsammy/Kara Abrams 21-13, 21-8 while Nadine Jairam/Arian Kayume defeated Crystal Dey/Cindy Sookwah 21-13, 21-10.
The Ramdhanis, Narayan and Priyanna are through to the mixed doubles final after they defeated the pair of Jonathan Persaud/Nadine Jairam 21-9, 21-4.
They will face Mangra/Ramraj who defeated Cecil and Kara Abrams 21-19, 15-21, 15-21.
