PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Petrotrin easily brushed aside Angostura White Oak by nine wickets to win the inaugural Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board Powerplay tournament here Sunday night.
Set a meagre 108 for victory, Petrotrin cruised to 111 for one off the first ball of the penultimate over, to set up an easy win at Queen’s Park Oval.
They were led by Mario Belcon who slammed 68 from 52 balls with ten fours, putting on 97 for the first wicket with Evin Lewis who finished 29 not out off 49 balls with one four and a six. Belcon was aggressive from the outset, tearing into Angostura’s varied attack to race to his half-century off just 41 balls with seven fours.
He was eventually bowled by left-arm spinner Derone Davis as he essayed another big shot.
Lewis, meanwhile, remained until to the end to see his side home. Earlier, Navin Stewart top-scored with 37 off 36 balls and Rayad Emrit got 22, to propel Angostura to 107 for nine off their 20 overs, after winning the toss.
Left-arm spinner Yannick Ottley, the tournament Most Valuable Player, finished with three for 17.
