THE VALLEY, Anguilla, CMC – CARIFTA Games bronze medallists quarter-miler Dee Ann Rogers and sprinter Zharnel Hughes will spearhead Anguilla’s track and field team at the 19th Central American and Caribbean Junior Championships in El Salvador starting Friday.
Also included in the five-member Anguilla delegation is the Leeward Islands high jump silver medallist Theron Niles.
Rogers will compete in the heptathlon – a gruelling event which includes the 100m hurdles, 200m, shot put, long jump, javelin and the 800m.
She will be looking to be among the medallists, having recently set the record and claimed the crown of Leeward Islands heptathlon champion.
Participating in only his second international event, Rogers’s fellow compatriot Niles will be aiming to improve upon his high jump mark of 1.83m.
Hughes, the new Leeward Islands junior 100 and 200m record holder, will be competing in the same events and hoping to improve on his times for the World Junior Championships to be held in Barcelona, Spain from July 10-15.
The athletes will be accompanied by coaches Heather Richardson and Rollins Richardson.
The Games conclude July 1.
