Police in Linden are on the hunt for a man who escaped their grasp following a high-speed chase in Linden yesterday midday. The chase was in pursuit of a car believed to have been stolen in Georgetown.

Other persons residing and traversing between the two bus sheds at Amelia’s Ward said that there were two persons in the car which bore the number plate PJJ 3047. As the chase continued through the streets, the car came to an abrupt halt as it crashed into a pole.
One of the occupants jumped out and made good his escape while the second person was apprehended. The car was lodged at the Amelia’s Ward Police Outpost, while the suspected carjacker was taken to the Mackenzie Police Station. As word got around several persons went to the outpost to catch a glimpse of the car.
Three persons told this newspaper that they had noticed the car passing along Republic Avenue on Monday evening twice playing unusually loud music.
“I de even turn and tell them guys who de sitting out here, ‘who is dah strange man passing through here with he music up so loud?’” said one man. Another said, “Two times dey pass here (Republic Avenue), two times and dey looking like if dey looking fuh somebody.”
Later, a pick-up full of armed police officers was seen leaving the outpost with a man who seemed to be no older than 25 years old, dark in complexion and was wearing a yellow striped jersey. He was sitting under guard in the tray of the police vehicle with his head bowed.
Several curious residents were seen positioning themselves to catch a glimpse of the suspected carjacker.
