The father of Shamar Success, the 11-year-old child who drowned after a swim in the Atlantic Ocean, was yesterday moved to tears when he collected his son’s results for the National Grade Six Assessment (NSGA) and saw that he had secured a place amongst the country’s top performers.
Roy Success, the proud, but grieving father, said his son had gained 524 marks and was awarded a place at the Bishops’ High School.
“He was very confident and always used to say that ‘I will get Queen’s College or Bishops’ and now he got it he’s not here to celebrate,” the father said mournfully.
He added that his son had been a very talented and dedicated student and credited his high score to that and to Sir Wilfred Success of Success Elementary School.
An afternoon swim for a group of boys at the Kingston seawall ended tragically on April 10, when Shamar disappeared after being engulfed by the rough waters.
