The trial of murder accused Sherwin Barnwell continued yesterday with two previous witnesses being recalled for cross-examination by the defence.
In the court of Justice Franklyn Holder, Hemwattie Bahadur, the sister of the deceased Nohar Bahadur and police witness Hamlet Da Silva were both cross-examined by defence lawyer George Thomas. Thomas, who was appointed by the state on the request of Justice Holder to assist Barnwell’s attorney Norma Lewis with the trial, had requested to examine the witnesses.
Police witness Morgan Chalmers also testified yesterday.
Barnwell is on trial for the 2006 murder of Bahadur.
Meanwhile, in Justice Roxane George’s court, the complainant in the rape allegedly committed by Devon McFarlane, called ‘Kang,’ testified and was cross-examined by the defence lawyer Ronald Burch-Smith. McFarlane is accused of raping the woman on December 11, 2009, at Bare Root, East Coast Demerara while she was returning home from work.
Both cases will continue tomorrow.
