The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) on Monday said it does not selectively target anyone in its efforts to collect state revenues and enforce the tax laws.
It gave this assurance in a statement issued in response to comments by AFC MP Cathy Hughes on Sunday on the ‘Eye on the Issues’ television programme, where she suggested that the GRA investigates those who are opposed to and critical of the agency and its policies.
“The GRA is entrusted with the singular distinction of protecting and collecting the state’s revenue and enforcing the taxing statutes in Guyana. In this regard, the GRA does not selectively enforce the law against taxpayers based on their political affiliation, colour, creed or religion but rather seeks to impartially enforce the law to protect and collect the state’s revenue in keeping with its mandate,” the GRA said.
