Berbice Education Institute (BEI) is through to the Region six finals of the Digicel School Football Championship after they defeated Vryman’s Erven Secondary 3-1 on penalty kicks at All Saints Ground, New Amsterdam on Thursday.
The match ended 2-2 after regulation time.
Scorers for BEI were Xavier Lindie in the eighth and 57th minutes and for Vryman’s Erven, Calvin Johnson and Staymon Murray in the 44th and 77th minutes.
Damien DaSilva, coach of BEI said that while he is satisfied with this team’s performance, they could have done better. According to him the game tilted somewhat when one of his players received a red card.
“The most important thing we have to work on now is passing the ball, the problem affecting them passing the ball is the spectators as they tend to be playing to please the spectators and not focusing on the game”.
Meanwhile, at the Carifesta Sports Complex ground, Carmel Secondary edged out Lodge Secondary 2-1. The goal scorers for Carmel were Marlon Nedd and Jamal Hamilton in the 32nd and 66th minutes while Keith Fletcher scored in the 22nd minute for Lodge.
