“I ain’t going in fuh that”, a song that copped the third spot at this year’s Mash junior Calyspo Competition was recently recorded and the songwriter, Pearl `Precious Pearl’ Lewis is now seeking public help to have a video made.
Pearl, a local calypsonian who over the years has won many titles, is hoping that the Education Ministry would adopt the song which focuses on how violence in schools is being influence by Jamaican dancehall artists, Movado and Vybz Kartel.
Following the Mash competition, Lewis sought the services of local singer Edward Perez aka `Young Fyah’ to record the tune. This was recently done for free at the Signaals Recording Studio.
“I think that it is a good enough song to create a buzz around the Caribbean not only Guyana,” she told The Scene stressing that the Gaza/Gully feud is a serious issue that corrupts the minds of the youths.
Here are some of the lyrics:
“Well as a youth man in Guyana
Viewing de ills of society
Some fellow youths it seem are not focused
Imitating things downright crazy
Some losing sense of direction
Linking with gangs promoting brutality
Savagely attacking each other
Because de Gaza don’t de like Gully
Chorus
I ain’t joining no gang deh is wrong bang
I ain’t going in fuh that
Vybz Kartel, Movado can’t influence me
They can nevah do that
Dis Gaza and Gully thing possessing dem youths
I’m merely stating a fact
So den can’t get me fun do wuh dem does do
Because I ain’t going in fuh that
