The Alliance For Change (AFC) says it is willing to welcome Ralph Ramkarrran into its fold, mere hours after he resigned from the PPP.
Ramkarran yesterday resigned following concerns he had raised about widespread corruption in a recent article in the Mirror newspaper.
“I would love to see him come over to the AFC,” executive member Gerhard Ramsaroop last evening told Stabroek News.
Ramsaroop had just finished briefly addressing persons at the Stabroek Market Square where the AFC held a public meeting.
He said, “I was very heartened to learn today of Mr Ramkarran’s resignation. The writing has been on the wall for a long time and based on what he has been saying, particularly recently, there are clear incompatibilities with Mr Ramkarran and the manner in which the PPP/C is governing this country.”
He added that while there is some degree of surprise it is logical that at some time Ramkarran would have had to make a break given his anti corruption stance.
He indicated that he was looking forward to talks between his party and Ramkarran and Dr Faith Harding as well, as he was anticipating seeing not only Ramkarran but Harding at his party’s next congress. They would be valuable assets to the AFC in its anti-corruption and development plan for Guyana, he said.
Meanwhile, at last evening’s public meeting persons also heard from AFC supporters Freddie Kissoon, Mark Benschop and member Michael Carrington who urged citizens not to become complacent because elections were over but to be ever vigilant about the interests of their homeland.
