A fire of unknown origin last night destroyed a storage bond at Happy Acres, East Coast Demerara and though the fire service responded promptly, time was lost trying to find the location.
Neville Peters, owner of the International Industrial Materials and Equipment suppliers estimated his losses to be around three million dollars. He said that he was home when neighbours alerted him that his bond located next door was on fire.
The man told this newspaper that it took the two fire engines more than half an hour to get to the fire. By then the one-flat structure and all it contents had been destroyed. He said that at the moment the blaze did not appear to be suspicious.
Paint, clothing, photocopiers and an air conditioning unit are among the items that were destroyed. Peters praised the fire-fighters for their efforts in controlling the blaze.
