The second annual 5-mile cycle road race in observance of CARICOM Day gets underway this morning from 9am on the West Bank of Demerara.
Organised by national cycling coach, Hassan Mohamed, the race will commence outside the Wales Police Station at 9am, proceed to Bushy Park on the East Bank of Essequibo before returning to finish at the Demerara Harbour Bridge.
Veteran, Upright and Female cyclists will turn back at the Uitvlugt Community Centre and finish at the Harbour Bridge.
The first six senior finishers will receive prizes while the first three juniors, uprights and veterans will cart off prizes.
Also, the first two females and the first over 60-year-old rider will receive prizes.
Eight prime prizes are to be won during the course of the race.
The race is sponsored by Seven Seas and Dr. Chase of Geddes Grant Guyana Limited and representatives will be on hand to distribute the prizes to the winners.
The inaugural winners were Robin Persaud (senior), Paul DeNobrega (junior), Shameer Baksh (veteran), Jude Bentley (upright), Naomi Singh (female), and Walter Isaacs (veteran over-60-years).
